Ethie's birthday celebration

Warning: ginormous post, this is. That's ok - it's my blog, and it's my son's two year old birthday, so it should be big! Speaking of big, when did my little boy grow up? The moment you become a parent, time seems to move into warp speed.

We just can't get over how special our little nubbin is. His wit and charm surpass that of most adults. His vocabulary is absolutely enormous, and he is very good at using the appropriate words at the appropriate time. We drove by the Hot Springs Pool a few days ago, and he said "Kayakers down there!". What? We don't kayak, and we never talk about them, so where in the world did he learn about them?! Of course, there were kayaks in the pool.

He is such a happy little bug. He loves to run and play and "slide down slide!". He is content to read books, color, play with cars and help wash the dishes. He loves to give "everybody kisses" before bed and "pray Jesus". He is so sweet and loving and definitely a mamma's boy.

These first photos are from his actual birthday, which was July 22nd. I baked some banana muffins so we could have a little celebration for him after Daddy came home. Can you tell he is excited? He said "Happy birthday to you" when we lit the candle! We were trying to tell him "Happy birthday to you!".
Gosh, you'd think we never give the kid any utensils! Pretty funny, though!

There was such a big difference between his birthday last year and this year. He was so much more into everything this year. He opened all his presents by himself, and he actually knew what to do and that there was something in there for him!

Ok, these pics are from his party which we had on Saturday. Whoo hoo! His very own Sit and Spin!

This was a sweet little crown that his cousins Katalina and Austin made for him. I had to be quick, 'cause he didn't leave it on long.

I'm telling ya, the little dude LOVES books! And books about fire trucks certainly make him smile!

I love this sweet look. Such innocence. Such joy!

He got this adorable little flashlight from Grandpa and Grandma (Gil's parents). It is a little rooster that opens its mouth to shine the light. And of course it says "Cock-a-doodle-doo"!

Our good friend Tim (the one in the background laughing) got Ethan this musical card. It had a little dog face on the inside that vibrated back and forth and it played the song "Tequila". Totally inappropriate for a kid's birthday, but for a two year old, he didn't know the difference and he thought it was absolutely hilarious!

Oh is this our sweet happy boy, or what?!!

Cake time! He was probably wondering why we were doing this again since he had already had his muffin a few days ago!

Is this the coolest cake ever? I made the cake and Gil decorated it. We knew we wanted to do something with the John Deere tractor and plow and somehow make it look like fresh dirt. Well, Gil took it and ran with it and did a fabulous job! Move over, City Market! We've always decorated our kids' birthday cakes ourselves, and this certainly is one of the best!

Happy Birthday, Ethan! Mommy and Daddy love you so much!

Rebecca and Richard

What a beautiful wedding day for Rebecca and Richard! It was a lovely Colorado day filled with much sunshine and love. Even though things did not start off perfectly, Rebecca was the roll-with-it kind of bride who took it all in stride. Even though it was moments from the start of the wedding and her dress had not arrived, she was calm and cool (at least on the outside!). I've never seen a bride slip into her dress so quickly and moments later walk down the isle looking as gorgeous as ever. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together! Thank you for letting us be a part of your celebration!

Happy Birthday!

Two years ago tonight, our sweet little Ethan was brought into this world. He was born at home in a birthing tub. It was the most incredible experience I have ever been through. And this sweet little boy has brought us such joy in the last two years. I can't believe it has gone by so fast.

He has such a wonderful personality. All wit and very little sass. He loves John Deere tractors and construction equipment. Everytime we drive toward the new fire house that is being built down the road he says "Top bops (dump trucks), diggers, loaders coming!!!". His blankie is his favorite thing, and he adores his "Bubdee" (Lucas). We could not ask for a more precious little two year old, who always reminds us to "Pray Jesus" if we forget.

Happy Birthday, Eth. We love you soooo much.
